Don’t settle for a blaise stay.

have an exhilarating one.

Centrally located in the Old Saybrook, the oldest town on the Connecticut shoreline, the James Pharmacy Bed and Breakfast is your base for adventure. With scenic beaches, miles of coastline, pretty coves, the mouth of the CT River and two lighthouses, there is a lot to see. The James is located in the historic district less than 1,000 feet from the Main Street with its quaint shops and cafes.

Bike or drive (be sure to ask us for your complimentary beach parking pass) to nearby Harvey’s Beach; this small beach is said to be one of the best in Connecticut. Several outfits in the area offer kayak, canoe, or standing paddleboard rentals; see our “Outdoor Fun” guide. If you visit us in the warmer months, a lobster roll is required eating. Check out the James Guide to Lobster Rolls to find your match. For other dining, our “Let’s Eat!” guide is all you need. Of course, breakfast is on us. Your breakfast voucher (one per day of your visit) is good for up to $25 at nearby Mirsina’s.

Bird watcher? Time your visit to book a swallow tour boat to view muramation, when clusters of tree swallows numbering in the hundreds of thousands take to the sky flying in synchronized patterns of both small and large flock during the swallows’ annual autumn migrations, a sight that inspired Roger Tory Peterson, renowned orthonologist and artist (think Audubon prints) to say “…eclipsed any other avian spectacle I have ever seen.” Or see the autumn fall colors as you glide through the trees aboard one of the last steam engine trains in America. If live performances are your thing, regional theaters are found not far afield; the Katherine Hepburn Cultural Centers (a five minute walk from the James) offers a range of exciting offerings 200+ days a years, from cover bands to jazz trios to live broadcasts (HD on a large screen) from the Metropolitan Opera.
